So for today's post I have a theme. Golden Globes!! Just kidding it is Oscar themed. Today I will be conquering the challenge of creating Oscar Statue Sugar Cookies.
Here is what they should look like. By the end I wasn't able to tell the difference between my creation and the original picture. (not really. there was a big difference of which one was better)

Now let's get started!
Pt 1: Sugar cookie
Ingredients: (which I had to make some tweaks)
2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
1 tsp baking soda (couldn't find any so I didn't use this)
1/2 tsp baking powder
1 cup softened butter
1 1/2 cups white sugar
1 egg
1 tsp vanilla extract ( did not have this so I used the next best thing... almond extract)

Step 1) First mix together the flour and the baking powder.

Step 2) In a separate bowl mix together the sugar and the softened butter until smooth.

Step 3) Add the vanilla extract, in my case the almond extract, and the egg to the sugar and butter mix and stir it all together.

Step 4) Mix the dry ingredients with wet ingredients and you have your dough. Put it on a non greased cookie sheet and flatten the dough as good as possible.

Step 5) Take a knife and cut the shape of an Oscar into the dough. Mine don't resemble an Oscar that much but it is the effort that matters. You then remove all the excess dough, put them in a 375 degree oven for 8 minutes.

Part 2: Gold icing (jk it is just yellow)
Ingredients:
1 cup powdered sugar
1/2 tsp vanilla extract (again had to use my trusty old almond extract)
1/2 tbs milk
2 drops yellow food coloring ( which is not pictured below)

Step 1) Mix together milk, powdered sugar, and almond extract (if you were smart and double checked that you had all the ingredients). You then will put two drops of yellow food coloring in the mix and stir it together.

Step 2) Put the icing on to the cookies and you have yourself a delicious treat to eat during the ceremony!

Today's rating comes from my older brother, Jackson, who said they were pretty good and gave them a 7 out of 10 rating. 7 out of 10 rating for the second week in a row and half a meltdown, I would say this went okay. Now if you need to pick up some ingredients because you are inspired by my "triumph" head on over to your local Dillons and get started!!
Very creative. I love that you tied it to Oscar Sunday! The pictures and list of steps make it easy to follow along. Good job!
ReplyDeleteI love how honest you are about how it turned out. A lot of people can relate to Pinterest projects going wrong, so it's refreshing to see you document it. Also, you find a way to incorporate humor into your posts, which makes it fun for the reader. Great job!
ReplyDeleteI love your little Oscar snowmen! I like how you related your post to the Academy awards, I think it's smart to make posts relevant to current events. I'm not crazy about the gadget with the posts listed at the top, because it lists your posts (out of order) before the actual posts. However I'm loving this blog so far and admiring your craftiness!
